Osaka has great rivers and a long seaside resulting in easy access to Kyoto, Kobe, Nara, and other big cities in Japan. Due to this advantageous location, Osaka developed historically as a merchant city for the trade of food, clothing, industrial products, drugs, toys, and so on. In the 1600s, people moved to specific areas within the city to produce and trade these items efficiently. As a result, Osaka has many unique areas.
